Wedding movies to inspire you

The world of weddings has been and still is a very recurring theme in the cinema. For sure, all of us had spent a fun time and emotional moments watching such kind of movies. If, on top of that, you are immersed in the organization of your wedding, you can find inspiration in these types of films, while you relax with your partner.

Starting from the stage where they take place, what must be taken into account in the organization, the bridal look of the couple, the soundtracks, and even the hairstyle of the protagonists, all of these can give you ideas for your celebration.

Today we recommend 5 romantic movies in which one or more weddings are the protagonists. We hope you have a fun time reading this post and are encouraged to see these films with your partner. Also, at the end of the post, we have a surprise for you, because at HigarNovias we also make wedding dresses for the movies!

We start with one of the most romantic movies of the 90s, Four Weddings and a Funeral.

A comedy that tells the love story of Charles (Hugh Grant), a handsome and elegant Englishman, and Carrie (Andie MacDowell), an attractive American, through several coincidental weddings and some unexpected event. This British film reached the hearts of half the world that filled the cinemas.

Four weddings with four settings and four different wedding dresses to get ideas from, what more could you ask for?

Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney and Cameron Diaz are the stars of My Best Friend’s Wedding.

This romantic comedy, in which Julianne (Julia Roberts) is the maid of honor for her best friend’s (Dermot Mulroney) wedding with Kimberly (Cameron Diaz). Three days before the wedding, she realizes that he is the love of her life, thus triggering a whole series of hilarious situations, in which Julianne tries to avoid the wedding at all costs. A 1997 film that was a success both with critics and commercially.

Look at the dresses of the bridesmaids, the hairstyle of the bride or the fantastic soundtrack, elements that can be very inspiring.

Another of the films that we have chosen for its intensity, for the happiness it generates and for the desire to dance that you get when you see it, is Mamma Mia.

A musical with the songs of the mythical Swedish group Abba, in a heavenly place such as the Greek island of Skopelos, with protagonists of the stature of Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan.

Its beautiful beaches and its picturesque villages can motivate you to recreate them or take some detail. The bohemian wedding dress with Mediterranean airs that Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) wears is a delight, that will make you fall in love.

We have chosen The War of Brides because it describes in detail the planning of a wedding and because of the wonderful wedding dresses that the protagonists wear.

Two wedding dresses, one with a mermaid cut and the other with a princess silhouette, two styles that are very present in our Legacy and Atlantis collections. We see Emma (Anne Hathaway), with a mermaid line design, asymmetrical neckline and draped on the body, while Liv (Kate Hudson) opted for a princess shaped dress, sweetheart neckline and skirt with abundant tulle.

The plot of the film tells the story of these two friends who, since they were little girls, have planned in great detail how their weddings will be when they grow up. The venue must be the same for both, the Plaza Hotel, the fashionable venue for weddings in New York. An error in the appointment of the dates will make that both coincide. From that moment onwards, there will be a dispute between them, to see who gets to celebrate their ceremony in the dreamed place. Laughter is guaranteed in this romantic comedy in true American style.

And we finish with a Spanish movie Now or Never.

A comedy of confusion that perfectly portrays the nerves prior to a wedding, and the difficulties encountered by a  couple about to get married, who decides to celebrate their wedding in a distant place, to which the bride, the groom and the guests must travel.

Eva (María Valverde) and Álex (Dani Rovira) decide to get married in England, where they met three years earlier, but they will have to overcome several obstacles, including a strike and a volcano. The film extols the idea that love can do everything, and that the support of friends and family is essential, when wedding preparations get complicated.

Movie wedding dress

Here comes the surprise, in 2018, we got a very special request for a movie. They commissioned us one of our wedding dresses of the season, the model Miel by Valerio Luna, to star in the wedding at the end of Everyone Knows It, by Asghar Farhadi, starring Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz. The beautiful Inma Cuesta was beaming with our model. It was a pleasure to participate in this international project.
