5 styles of groom suit, which one will be yours?

It will depend on the degree of formality that you want to give to your wedding. It will define the groom suit you choose to give the “yes I do” to your partner. Ideally, you should start looking for your bridal look about three to four months before the wedding.

You will become familiar with words such as tuxedo, tailcoat, morning coat or frock coat. In this post we want to clarify the differences between each of them and when to put them on, stock make your choice the best possible one. In addition, you must bear in mind that for any model or style of groom suit to fit you “like a glove”, as we said in a previous post, getting the size right is essential, so that it fits your measurements.

The tailcoat is the highest dress code, a very elegant gala dress that should only be worn at night and if the ceremony is religious. It consists of a jacket that is short at the front to the waist and the back has two types of peak-shaped skirts that reach the knees. It is accompanied by a white shirt, a light colored vest and a bow tie. You can find them plain or patterned, and in different shades of color. Shoes must be black and lace-up, and include the option of shiny.

The morning suit is the quintessential ceremony dress in Spain. You can opt for this type of ceremony suit if your wedding is during the day, no matter if it is religious or civil. If you decide on this garment, the normal thing is that the father-of-the-bride and the witnesses also wear it. Classic and sophisticated in equal measure, it is characterized by the fact that the back of the jacket has two semi-circular pointed flaps with a small opening. It has a single button and is usually black or charcoal gray. The shirt must be white, with a collar without buttons and with double cuffs to include cufflinks. The vest can be straight or double-breasted, and the tie in the same color and with the Windsor knot, that is the most appropriate one. Shoes will be matte or low-gloss black with laces.

The tuxedo is a formal dress for evening celebrations and is more common for religious, rather than civil liaisons. The jacket is straight cut and has no skirts, closes at the front with one or two buttons, has silk or satin lapels and is usually black or navy blue. It is complemented with a white shirt with a bow tie collar. The classic option incorporates a sash and bow tie. If you want to modernize it, use a vest and tie.

If you want to opt for a more formal jacket suit, choose the frock coat or semi-frock coat.  They are formal clothes, perfect no matter if  your marriage is religious or civil, in the morning or late at night. It comes from the military jackets of the 19th century, specifically from the coat. The frock coat reaches almost to the knees, and the semi-frock coat is shorter. In the market you can find a very wide color palette. Ideally, it should be combined with a white shirt.
